Coan is a boutique interior design studio founded by Claire Murphy, working with homeowners across London, Surrey, the South West and beyond.
Claire established the studio with a clear belief: that the most beautiful interiors are the ones that genuinely work for the people who live in them. Her approach is calm and unhurried, built around understanding a client's home, habits, and taste before anything else.
Her work is characterised by natural materials, layered textures, and a sensitivity to light and space - rooms that feel considered rather than decorated, and that quietly improve with time.
Based in the Surrey Hills, the studio works on projects of all scales, from individual rooms to whole-home transformations.

CREATIVE LEAD AND FOUNDER
Claire's path into design began with a BA in Design (Hons) at the University of New South Wales, Australia, followed by a Diploma in Interior Design, London - a combination that gave her both creative range and technical grounding. Before founding Coan Interior Design, Claire spent years working on creative projects in retail for international brands, covering store design, visual merchandising, and marketing programme management. That experience across different markets and brand cultures shaped the way she designs today: paying close attention to how people actually experience and move through a space, rather than designing to trend.
That international outlook, paired with a deep respect for traditional British materials and architecture, is what defines Coan Interior Design. Founded as a boutique interior design studio in Surrey, the studio is built on the belief that good design starts with listening - understanding a family's home and habits before any decisions are made. It's an approach that has made Coan a trusted name for interior design in Guildford, Surrey and London, working across projects of every scale, from single rooms to full home renovations.
